Through my perceptions of the world, I paint places of solace and seclusion, giving meaning to the landscape often taken for granted. My perceptions, combined with my thoughts and experiences, my feelings and beliefs, my uniqueness as a human being goes into each work, creating not another banal landscape, but a representation of a piece of my soul.
My oils and pastels are painted alla prima, or rather, finished in one painting session while the paint is still wet and the colors can swirl and blend. As a result, my paintings tend to be small, inviting in their intimate size. My oils are painted on muslin, gessoed on hardboard or wood. My pastels are painted on hardboard coated with clay and gesso with a textured surface, allowing for ample layers. For both oils and pastels, I lay down a wash of burnt sienna and yellow ochre before painting. This creates a fuller, warmer palette.

I started painting when my family and I moved to Ohio from Tennesee in 1989. I began taking classes with a local Art group and began showing and selling the next year. In the beginning I worked in a very traditional style but gradually started experimenting with different mediums and styles. However, I am drawn to water media and collage. My inspirations come from nature especially stones, rocks and water, yet much of my work is very intuitive. I love to let the water flow, and colors mingle, and allow the work to show me where it wants to go. Currently I am experimenting with a variety of media and collage to create abstract works. An art piece may contain scraps of cardboard, old painting pieces, hand made papers or anything else I may choose to create visual interest and texture. Acrylic paint, ink or water color is poured or painted onto the surface to enhance the image or develop the mood of the piece.

I have always enjoyed working with various materials to create objects but found that fusing glass has been the area that I enjoy the most. It allows me to create three dimensional works that I could not when I began working in stained glass. I use heat to assemble my works and give them dimension that I could not obtain with glass and lead. It also allows me to explore the various characteristics of glass and its many colors and textures. I particularly enjoy adding the unique characteristics of iridized and dichroic glass into my works.
I began fusing glass about eight years ago after starting in stained glass and trying several other interests including cutting and polishing gemstones to create jewelry as well an underwater photography. I have studied various fusing techniques throughout the United States and have had my work displayed in galleries throughout Ohio and Florida as well as Art Festivals throughout the Midwest.
